Position Overview:
As part of a multidisciplinary team, and under the direction of the Social Work Lead, the Addictions Counsellor is responsible for:
- Providing clinical support relating to intake, assessment, education, treatment, consultation, and referral for clients who are currently experiencing, or are affected by problems related to substance use.
- Providing individual and group counselling/psychoeducation to students in grades 7-12.
- Providing support to families of students affected by problems related to addiction.
- Liaising with the community to facilitate pathways to service.
- Providing professional development to our school staff, students and parents (may require infrequent evening work).
- Coordinating and consulting with other members of a multidisciplinary team.
- Responding to crisis situations, assessing suicide risk and participating in Violence Threat Risk Assessments.
- Addressing chronic absenteeism.
- Engaging in data collection, research and report writing.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Social Work.
- Membership in the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in providing clinical services to youth.
- Significant understanding of substance use and technology overuse issues, mental health, concurrent disorders, problematic gambling.
- Knowledge of evidence-based treatment approaches in the fields of mental health and addiction.
- Superior knowledge base in community-based addictions services.
- Knowledge of community resources in other sectors (i.e. youth justice, child welfare, health care, mental health, etc).
- Technology skills in preparing educational resources and in working collaboratively within Google Suite.
The following would be considered an asset:
- Certification in Addictions.
- Training in suicide risk assessment/VTRA.
- Experience in group facilitation.
Compensation:
This is a full-time temporary position with an annual salary range of $93,671 – 110,063 to be prorated to the duration of the assignment. The start date will be as soon as possible with an end date of August 29, 2025.
