Were looking for an Agronomy Programs Specialist to join our Research, Extension & Agronomy team for a one-year maternity leave term. In this role, youll work closely with farmers, researchers, and industry partners to lead impactful agronomy programs and bring cutting-edge, practical research directly to the field.
Job Type: This is a full-time role with the ability to work remotely up to two days a week. This role is a maternity leave replacement for approximately 12 months. We are targeting a January 5, 2026 start date, with a January 29, 2027 end date.
Reporting to the Director of Research, Extension & Agronomy, youll manage and grow key agronomic initiatives that deliver real-world value to Alberta farmers:
Plot2Farm On-Farm Research Program

- Drive participation and engagement among Alberta farmers.
- Build collaborative partnerships with public and private stakeholders.
- Manage program budgets, funding proposals, and reporting.
- Lead extension efforts and share research outcomes with farmers and industry.
Advanced Management Trials

- Coordinate and support the execution of variety-specific fungicide and management trials at multiple Alberta sites.
- Ensure scientific consistency, quality data collection, and strong partnerships with cooperators and seed/crop science partners.
- Translate findings into practical insights through reports, presentations, and digital content.
Regional Variety Trials (RVTs)

- Oversee Albertas cereal variety trials, ensuring collaboration, accuracy, and continuity.
- Represent Alberta Grains on the Alberta Regional Variety Advisory Committee.
- Lead funding applications and progress reporting.
Research and Extension Department Team Member
- Review and assess research proposals for funding opportunities.
- Build and strengthen relationships with researchers, partners, and producers.
- Support new agronomy initiatives that align with Alberta Grains strategic priorities.
- Contribute to communications, field days, and extension activities.
Experience and qualifications:
- Degree in agriculture or related science program
- 5+ years of agronomic experience in Western Canadian agriculture
- Current Professional Agrologist designation with a Crop Production or similar Practice Area
- Proven ability to develop and lead research or extension programs.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong attention to detail and project management skills.
- Ability to translate technical research into practical insights for producers.
- Willingness to travel up to 20%.
