Role Summary:
Anesthesia Assistants play a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and comfort during surgical procedures. This position requires collaboration with Anesthesiologists to provide anesthesia care, monitor patients’ vital signs, and evaluate cardiorespiratory conditions.
Main Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in patient care during induction by administering prescribed anesthetic agents, monitoring side effects, and assessing physiological condition throughout the anesthesia process.

They will also provide diagnostic data to Anesthesiologists or Surgeons, including blood gases, pulse oximetry, transcutaneous monitoring, and end tidal Carbon Dioxide (CO2).
In addition, they will support patient preparation for surgery by completing pre-operative assessments, inserting necessary lines and tubes, and ensuring proper patient positioning. Ensuring appropriate performance and maintenance of anesthesia-related equipment is also a key responsibility.
Requirements:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess an Advanced Diploma in Respiratory Therapy or an Undergraduate degree in Nursing, along with current certification as a Certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant.

Registered membership with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario or the College of Nurses of Ontario is also required. A minimum of 2 years of experience in the Anesthesia Assistant role, preferably in an operating room setting, is essential.
Candidates should also demonstrate good stewardship in identifying, reporting, and mitigating unsafe acts or conditions, aligning with BCHS’s Corporate Priority on Safety.

A reliable individual with excellent attendance record and ability to work all shifts is preferred. The selected candidate will contribute to creating an accessible and inclusive organization, upholding the values of respect, accountability, care, and equity.

They will work collaboratively with the nursing team to meet the needs of patients under the care of an anesthesiologist.
