We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Roller Operator to join a paving team in Hamilton. The role involves operating asphalt rollers to compact hot mix asphalt to project specifications, ensuring smooth, durable surfaces. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively as part of a paving crew in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate asphalt rollers (single drum, double drum, or pneumatic) during paving operations
Compact asphalt to meet project specifications, grades, and surface requirements
Coordinate with the paving foreman and crew to maintain consistent rolling patterns
Perform pre-operation inspections and basic equipment maintenance
Monitor mat temperature, rolling speed, and compaction quality
Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and Ministry of Labour regulations
Assist with general labour tasks on the paving crew as needed
Maintain a clean and safe worksite at all times
Qualifications & Skills
1–3 years of experience operating asphalt rollers
Valid driver’s license (G preferred)
Strong understanding of asphalt compaction techniques and paving processes
Ability to work long hours, evenings, and weekends as required during peak season
Physically able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Safety certifications (WHMIS, Working at Heights) considered an asset
