The Assistant Site Superintendent plays a key role in supporting the smooth operation of construction projects by assisting in the coordination and management of daily site activities. This role involves overseeing site organization, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule, and maintaining clear communication with subcontractors and workers. The Assistant Site Superintendent is responsible for monitoring safety, identifying potential risks, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations. They assist with quality control, materials management, and resolving any issues that may arise during construction. This position requires strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various teams to ensure the project progresses efficiently and meets all expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Site Coordination

  • Assign daily tasks to workers and subcontractors, ensuring clarity of responsibilities and alignment with project requirements.
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for trades needing direction, clarification, or support during construction activities.
  • Ensure crews have access to necessary tools, materials, and information to maintain productivity throughout the workday.
  • Communicate updates on site priorities or schedule changes to affected teams to maintain alignment.

Project Oversight & Scheduling

  • Develop the initial site schedule by reviewing and interpreting all relevant project documentation.
  • Monitor construction progress against timelines and quality benchmarks, identifying delays or inefficiencies and taking corrective action.
  • Adjust schedules in response to unforeseen site conditions, notifying teams of changes and minimizing downtime.
  • Synchronize trade activities and resolve technical issues that impact coordination or execution.

Technical Support & Quality Control

  • Walk units regularly to confirm progress aligns with project plans and quality expectations.
  • Compare construction work to blueprints and specifications, resolving discrepancies and supporting trades in technical problem-solving.
  • Inspect completed work to confirm it meets standards and assign corrective tasks where necessary.
  • Coordinate and support all internal and external inspections, documenting outcomes and ensuring compliance.

Safety & Hazard Management

  • Conduct and update hazard assessments as site conditions evolve or new tasks are introduced.
  • Lead safety briefings and communicate risks to workers and subcontractors.
  • Complete and submit detailed incident reports, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions such as retraining or revised procedures.
  • Ensure the site is organized and maintained to support safe operations, including clear zones for materials, waste, and equipment.

Resource & Cost Management

  • Monitor labor use, material consumption, and equipment scheduling to optimize efficiency and control costs.
  • Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely delivery of supplies and avoid overstocking or shortages.
  • Approve trade invoices, purchases, and VPOs, ensuring consistency with the project budget and procurement standards.
  • Track actual costs against budget expectations and flag discrepancies to site leadership.

Stakeholder Communication & Documentation

  • Attend weekly construction meetings to provide updates and raise any issues affecting timelines or quality.
  • Provide regular project updates to internal stakeholders and collaborate across teams to ensure alignment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of site activities, inspections, deficiencies, and completed corrective actions.
  • Schedule key project milestones including PPI, PDI, QCI, and POSS to support smooth handovers and occupancy approvals.

Site Maintenance & General Support

  • Oversee temporary structures, exterior site cleanup, and seasonal maintenance tasks.
  • Support framing check-out, perform light repairs, and verify proper installation of construction hardware.
  • Manage tool and material procurement, coordinating deliveries and equipment pickups to support daily operations.
