Clinical Dietitian, Gastroenterology Care Team

Reporting to the Manager, Children’s Ambulatory Medical Care, the Clinical Dietitian works collaboratively as a member of the multidisciplinary Gastroenterology Care Team and is responsible for the nutritional management of children seen by the team. The dietitian participates in case conferences and team rounds and assists in the education of health centre staff, dietetic interns, and affiliating students in normal and therapeutic nutrition.


The Clinical Dietitian holds accountability to the Professional Practice Leader for issues pertaining to professional Standards of Practice and Ethics.


Hours of Work: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Flexibility required. Evening/weekend/holiday stand‑by and call‑back coverage as required.


Your Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s Degree with major credits in nutrition or dietetics required.

  • Successful completion of a Dietitians of Canada‑accredited dietetic internship program required.

  • Current license to practice with Nova Scotia Dietetic Association, or eligible to obtain a license, required.

  • A master’s degree is an asset.

  • Previous experience in both inpatient and ambulatory health care settings required.

  • Previous employment experience as a Clinical Dietitian required.

  • Experience in pediatrics, nutrition support, and nutritional counseling required.

  • Previous clinical nutrition experience with the Gastroenterology population preferred.

  • Previous experience with parenteral and enteral nutrition preferred.
  • Experience evaluating medical, biochemical, and nutritional information of patients to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate evidence‑based nutrition care plans for patients receiving oral, enteral, and/or parenteral nutrition preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to critically appraise new evidence and apply findings to practice.

  • Teaching experience with a demonstrated ability to develop and deliver clinical education to healthcare providers as well as patients and families on an individual and group basis, both in person and virtually.

  • Ability to participate in weekend/holiday calls required.

  • Knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their roles in patient care.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication (verbal and written) skills required.

  • Demonstrated excellent time management, organization, and problem‑solving skills required.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative, interprofessional team, as well as the ability to work independently required.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to family‑centered care required.

  • Competency in other languages is an asset.
