His team works within the Advanced Pulmonary Imaging Lab (APILAB) at Western's Robarts Research Institute which houses a state-of the art collection of high-field (3T human) MRI and polarizer systems, as well as pulmonary function and deep learning cave with leading expertise in MRI technical development and application. The primary focus of Dr. Bhalla's team within the APILAB is to establish sputum evaluation methods to ascertain the functional characteristics of severe asthma across the lifespan; as well as establishing the mechanistic basis of lung disease worsening and response to treatment. Dr. Bhalla's lab has the principal mandate is to create new knowledge in severe asthma via peer-reviewed grant funded research and industry partnered research.</p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><br><p>The Clinical Research Coordinator will independently develop, manage, budget and operationalize clinical research projects in adherence with ethics protocols and Good Clinical Practice. The role will manage the day-to-day research involving vulnerable respiratory patients and will serve as the main point of contact for study participants. The Clinical Research Coordinator will manage and facilitate disseminating research results arising from these projects, and perform qualitative and quantitative data collection, entry and processing. The role will also perform, and train others to perform pulmonary function tests, as well as collection and processing of blood and sputum samples according to good laboratory practice. The Clinical Research Coordinator is responsible for budgeting new clinical research projects with responsibility for recruitment, retention and interactions with sponsors, industry, clinical collaborators and trainees/fellows.</p><h2>Qualifications</h2><br><p>Education:</p><ul><li>Undergraduate degree in a relevant area of focus with courses taken in medical laboratory technology</li><li>Master's degree preferred</li></ul><p>Experience:</p><ul><li>2 years of experience in qualitative and quantitative research administration</li><li>Experience working in a laboratory environment</li><li>Experience in preparing ethics submissions, research budgets and monitoring accounts is preferred</li></ul><p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:</p><ul><li>Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research ethics in an academic environment with an in-depth knowledge of the ethics submission process and GCP, GLP</li><li>In-depth knowledge of methods for research design, protocol development, implementation, and analysis</li><li>Strong background in the design and implementation of studies and analysis of clinical research projects</li><li>Knowledge in, and experience with, best practices and GLP for collection and processing of human samples (blood and sputum)</li><li>Familiarity with financial principles and budgeting with the ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required</li><li>Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines</li><li>Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a research database</li><li>Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit</li><li>Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience</li><li>Communication skills with an ability to complete detailed analytics and reports</li><li>Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards, particularly surrounding human subject research</li><li>Attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language</li><li>Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the research group's events and activities</li><li>Computer skills with software packages and other applications used to support the laboratory or research project</li><li>Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite</li><li>Interpersonal skills to liaise with prospective and current students, staff, faculty and other members of the Western community</li><li>Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation</li><li>Ability to interpret and identify patterns or problems in complex research data, and succinctly evaluate or summarize findings</li><li>Ability to coach members of a research group and support them to be self-directed and responsible for their own development and learning</li><li>Ability to evaluate issues, recognize potential problems and take action to proactively resolve issues</li><li>Ability to adhere to legislated safety requirements and Western safety policies</li><li>Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner</li><li>Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve research goals</li><li>Familiarity with University research policies and practices</li></ul><h2>Background Checks</h2><br><p>Please note, successful applicants may be required to produce a current vulnerable sector record check(s) from a police service prior to commencing employment.</p><h2>Western Values Diversity</h2><br><p>The University invites applications from all qualified individuals.
