We need a quality assurance specialist to help us build our reputation for excellence.</p>The Opportunity<p>We're looking for an experienced construction inspector to develop and implement our quality assurance program. You'll work directly with our leadership to create standards, train our teams, and ensure every project exceeds expectations.</p>Key Responsibilities<p><strong>Program Development :</strong></p><ul><li>Review our standard designs and identify critical quality points</li><li>Develop visual quality standards library (good vs. bad examples)</li><li>Create inspection checklists for each construction phase</li><li>Establish remediation protocols for common issues</li><li>Train PMs and trades on quality expectations</li></ul><p><strong>Ongoing Inspections:</strong></p><ul><li>Conduct 4 milestone inspections per project: <ul><li>Post-foundation (waterproofing verification)</li><li>Pre-insulation (MEP and envelope review)</li><li>Pre-drywall (final hidden work check)</li><li>Pre-occupancy (systems and finishes)</li></ul></li><li>Provide same-day verbal feedback and 48-hour written reports</li><li>Work collaboratively with trades to fix issues immediately</li><li>Verify corrections before work proceeds</li></ul><p><strong>Continuous Improvement:</strong></p><ul><li>Lead monthly quality review meetings</li><li>Track patterns across projects</li><li>Update standards based on learnings</li><li>Develop training materials from real examples</li><li>Interface with municipal inspectors to prevent issues</li></ul>Ideal Candidate<p><strong>Background (one or more):</strong></p><ul><li>Current/former municipal building inspector in Nova Scotia</li><li>P.Eng. with construction administration experience</li><li>Certified construction inspector (CAHPI, InterNACHI, or similar)</li><li>10+ years in construction quality control</li></ul><p><strong>Essential Qualities:</strong></p><ul><li>Deep knowledge of Nova Scotia Building Code</li><li>Experience with multi-unit residential construction</li><li>Teaching mindset - educates rather than criticizes</li><li>Practical problem-solver who suggests solutions</li><li>Available on 48-hour notice for inspections</li><li>Comfortable with photo documentation and basic reporting</li></ul><p><strong>Bonus Skills:</strong></p><ul><li>Building envelope expertise</li><li>Energy efficiency knowledge</li><li>Relationships with municipal building departments</li><li>Experience developing quality programs</li></ul>What We Offer<ul><li>Competitive hourly rate ($50-100/hour)</li><li>Potential for annual retainer as we scale</li><li>Opportunity to shape quality standards for growing company</li><li>Flexible schedule around your availability</li><li>Direct impact on improving housing quality in NS</li></ul>To Apply<p>Send your resume and a brief note explaining:</p><ol><li>Your relevant inspection experience</li><li>An example of a quality issue you caught and how you handled it</li><li>Your availability and preferred working arrangement</li></ol></p></p>Create Your Resume First
