About this role:
This role creates thought leading research and guides clients in the Software Engineering and IT application services market with a focus on sourcing practices, especially contracting and negotiations. This role will deliver guidance for our IT Leaders clients via conversations with clients (Inquiry), stage presentations, webinars, and client meetings (both virtual and live). It is important that you have a vision for how the Software Engineering and IT application services market will evolve worldwide (outsourced, nearshore & offshore) and at a regional level.
What you’ll do:
As a Gartner analyst, you will speak to Gartner clients either in a video-call, from the stage at a Gartner event or face-to-face during a sales support visit. In every client interaction, analysts help clients solve difficult sourcing issues, review their documents and service provider proposals, and guide them on best practices that will lead to better outcomes. To support these conversations, you will research markets, practices and trends and produce written research for Gartner clients to download and apply.
Your topic coverage will include:
- Reviewing IT Outsourcing services or Application Solution implementation RFPs clients have developed and need best practice guidance
- Sharing Gartner research and helping them identify the best service providers in the market globally for the scope of services they are seeking support (e.g., custom software development)
- Reviewing Services contracts from service providers for Outsourced services (Product/Backlog Management, software engineering and custom software development) and identifying gaps in the terms or KPIs, SLAs or how the proposed terms may not be in their favor
- Conducting research and analysis in specific areas of expertise targeting client’s key initiatives & delivering high quality actionable advice through a variety of media
- Writing high quality, clear, actionable, advisory research documents
- Remaining ahead of the curve on developments and issues within these specified areas as well as applicable adjacent areas
- Responding to client questions, via written responses, presentations, webinars and inquiry calls
- Maintaining Gartner’s industry leadership reputation by responding to press inquiries and offering interviews to share Gartner’s insight
- Proactively working with the wider sales organization and delivering outstanding sales support to retain and grow the business
What you’ll need:
It helps to be obsessed with your topic! Gartner analysts are correctly viewed as THE experts. This means you need to know your markets, vendors, trends, management practices, etc. and be able to see the forest and the trees. Most Gartner analysts have many years of experience and enjoy solving sourcing problems and helping others. Being able to summarize Gartner advice and confidently respond to client questions on a 30-minute call is a key competency to be successful in this role.
To be able to cover any of the topics, you will need:
- Subject matter expertise in all phases of sourcing for IT services from 3rd party providers (outsourcing) in custom software development.
- Knowledge of service providers and the global service provider landscape, and the competitive interplay between incumbents, emerging providers, disruptors, and outsourcers.
Sourcing services experience in three (3) or more below IT Services Markets is required:
- Sourcing Strategies and options for DevOps strategy, DevOps Engineering, DevOps Managed Services
- Automation, Low-Code (LCAP)/ No-Code and RPA-related services
- API Management and Integration Service Providers
- Custom Software Development Sourcing Strategy
- DevOps Platform / Product Engineering Services Contracting
- Testing Services Contracting
- AI, Gen AI and ML Services Contracting
- Outsourcing Applications & Infrastructure (Hosting) Services
- Cloud Transformation Services
- Enterprise Solutions implementations services
- Applications Testing Services
Additional requirements:
- Articulate and succinct communication skills.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a research or technology related role, end-user client (buyer) experience desired.
- Experience with Professional Services contract development and negotiation is a plus.
- Bachelor’s or equivalent experience, Master’s degree preferred.
