The Occupational Health and Safety Branch is seeking a dynamic, high performing, innovative, values driven strategic leader to join its management team in the role of Director, Health Standards Unit in the Regina or Saskatoon OH&S office. In this role, you will be committed to fostering a positive labour environment, encouraging healthy, safe and productive workplaces and reducing the incidence and severity of workplace incidents and exposures. As a proven leader, you will be responsible for directing and managing a diverse group of technical professionals within the two distinct units of Radiation Safety and Occupational Hygiene.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will:


  • Lead the development of branch strategic, operational, and annual plans.
  • Direct the branch analysis, review and application of technical standards, including the harmonization of OHS legislation.
  • Develop, communicate, promote, and implement effective occupational health standards in the province.
  • Contribute to ministry strategic planning with significant knowledge of radiation safety and occupational hygiene trends and emerging issues.
  • Direct the unit response to inspections including serious injury and fatalities, regulatory exemptions, and media requests.
  • Enable individual performance through work planning and effective management of resources.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports to engage and grow talent.
  • Effectively manage teams and relationships, resolving conflicts and giving meaningful feedback.
  • Facilitate collaboration by coordinating with other areas within the organization.
  • Collaborate strategically and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Participate on various cross-ministry and cross government committees and working groups.
  • Effectively manage operations with a wide variety of priorities and stewardship of fiscal, human and information management resources.
  • Manage services and contracts required for branch operations.
  • Demonstrate excellent organization, project management and team building skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The successful candidate will possess the knowledge and abilities that would typically be obtained through the completion of a relevant degree in a related field (physical science, health science or engineering) supplemented with at least two years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with regulatory enforcement and/or a CRSP designation would be considered an asset.
