Director, People Operations & Culture

Our client in Downtown Calgary is looking for a Director, People Operations & Culture, to add to their growing team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in scaling and maturing the organization's people function. This role owns the structure, governance, and continuous improvement of HR operations across Canada and the United States

Your success will be defined by your ability to:

  • Own people operations across Canada and the U.S., including multi-provincial and multi-state compliance, policy governance, and documentation integrity
  • Design, improve, and scale HR processes end-to-end, including onboarding, offboarding, performance management, and employee lifecycle workflows
  • Provide senior oversight and direction for payroll operations through partnership with the Payroll Specialist, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong controls
  • Lead benefits programs across Canada and the U.S., managing multiple vendors and ensuring competitive and compliant offerings
  • Own ADP Workforce Now governance, including audits, reporting, data accuracy, and system optimization
  • Ensure complete, compliant employee files, including background checks and required documentation across jurisdictions
  • Lead employee relations matters and performance management frameworks, identifying and escalating risks early
  • Partner closely with the CFO to anticipate people-related risks and needs, enabling more strategic decision-making
  • Provide leadership and operational structure to the People team, reducing the need for granular day-to-day oversight
  • Support the continued scaling of the organization by building strong, repeatable HR foundations and governance
Your strengths include:
  • 8–10+ years of progressive HR experience, including senior ownership of people operations in both Canada and the U.S.
  • Strong background in HR operations, compliance, policy management, and reporting within growing or complex organizations
  • Hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now, including reporting, audits, and data governance
  • Proven ability to design, improve, or rebuild people processes end-to-end
  • Experience overseeing payroll and benefits programs across multiple jurisdictions and vendors
  • Strong judgment and ability to operate independently with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset
  • Clear and confident communicator who keeps leadership informed and aware of risks and priorities
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and managing complexity in a fast-paced scale-up environment
  • Hungry to learn, contribute, and grow alongside a scaling organization
  • Deep intellectual curiosity with a results-focused, continuous improvement mindset
