Estimator - Construction Industry (Medior level)
Job Description
We are seeking a self motivated and detail oriented Medior Estimator to join one of our clients, a fast growing company operating in the construction sector. This role plays a critical part in producing accurate and competitive estimates for medium to large scale commercial mechanical projects.
The successful candidate will manage the full estimating process-from reviewing drawings to final pricing-while supporting ongoing operations and growth across multiple regions in Canada. As part of a small and agile team, the Estimator will report directly to ownership and assume responsibility for a core business function that directly impacts project success and overall company performance. This position requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in a deadline driven construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage cost estimates for medium to large scale commercial mechanical projects
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents
- Record, analyze, and compare bids from multiple vendors and subcontractors
- Develop accurate pricing for mechanical scopes, with a focus on:
- Sheet metal
- Plumbing
- Electrical controls related to mechanical systems
- Distribute drawings to suppliers and subcontractors and consolidate quotations
- Analyze scope requirements and identify potential risks or cost impacts
- Ensure all bids are complete, competitive, and submitted on time
- Manage multiple estimates simultaneously with a high level of accuracy
- Identify opportunities to optimize equipment and supply costs
- Collaborate closely with ownership on bid strategy and project selection
Qualifications
- Technical background in HVAC, plumbing, mechanical systems, or related trades
- Ability to interpret and navigate technical drawings and specifications
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Solid understanding of mechanical construction methods and materials
- Ability to work independently and manage complex estimation tasks
- Strong organizational skills and comfort working under tight deadlines
Preferred Experience
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in mechanical or HVAC estimating
- Proven experience working on medium to large scale commercial projects
- Experience within a mechanical contractor environment is a strong asset
