Salary:

Position Summary

The Estimator supports the full preconstruction and estimating process, working under the guidance of a Senior Estimator or Director of Preconstruction. You will prepare accurate budgets, estimates, and tender packages, ensuring all project considerations are thoroughly evaluated. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, maintain strong relationships with clients and trade partners, and mentor junior estimating staff. With a strong understanding of market conditions and construction methodologies, you will deliver complete, well-analyzed preconstruction packages that set up the Operations team for successful project delivery.

*Experience with tower construction is an asset.

As an Estimator your key responsibilities will involve:

  • Managing the estimating process of a project including initial budgets, value engineering, budget updates, and tender.
  • Reviewing take-offs, elemental budgets, and other work items prepared by junior estimators.
  • Liaising with our in-house teams to understand all project considerations; schedule, constructability, site logistics, sustainability requirements, etc.
  • Looking beyond the plans at any given stage to see the complete project scope.
  • Understanding the impacts of various bid methods and types of head contracts.
  • Reading and understanding impacts of SGC's and division 1 specifications.
  • Being able to recognize, assess, and resolve areas of risk within a project use of exclusions, clarifications, and price adjustments.
  • Handing over a complete estimate and preconstruction package to the Operations Team.
  • Preparing and participating in presentations to clients, including final negotiations.
  • Mentoring and developing junior team members to maximize productivity, innovation, and teamwork.
  • Maintaining contact with Project Managers during construction of successful bids to gain real time feedback on bid issues.
  • Maintaining client relationships including discussing new work with existing clients.
  • Participating in developing new processes and workflow ideas to make the Estimating department more efficient.
  • Performing additional assignments and research to help further the knowledge base of yourself, the Estimating department, and the company.

As an Estimator your experience and qualifications will include:

  • Proven 5+ years experience as a construction estimator for a general contractor.
  • BCIT ABT (Architectural and Building Technology) two-year Diploma, or similar education an asset.
  • Experience with tower construction is an asset.
