EXPERIENCED ROOFER

Nanaimo, BC

Full-time or part-time SEASONAL

Hourly: $19 - $35

Do you enjoy fixing up houses and helping people in your community? Certified & experienced roofers are needed all year round, especially during the rainy season when a lot of homeowners realize their roof has sprung a leak. Not only will you have an opportunity to work on residential and commercial buildings, but you will become familiar with installations methods for installing a certified Duro-Last roofing system.   Ideal candidate will be interested in completing the apprenticeship program and long-term opportunity for growth. As a roofer, you will work as part of a spirited team that knows how to get a job done but also when to have fun. 

Essential Job Functions

• Certification in roofing or relevant construction experience

• At least 18 years old

• Reliable transportation

• Ability to lift heavy loads up to 70 lbs. 

• Operate machinery safely

• Ladder safety and ability to climb to heights and work with proper safety restraints

Education/Preferred Experience

• Knowledge of different types of roofing systems

• Knowledge of building ordinances

• Two years of experience working as a roofer

• Interested in completing the Apprenticeship program

• Fall Protection certification is required before hired - can do online

• WHMIS Certification is required before hire - can do online

• Basic First Aid is encouraged

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections to pinpoint roofing issues and establish the best methods of reparation

• Set up necessary equipment and scaffolding and clear out vegetation, debris and other obstacles in preparation of roofing projects

• Familiarity of Roofing systems and types of material necessary for roofing projects

• Install insulation and waterproof materials according to the best practices for each project’s particular roofing system

Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of  three years’ experience in the roofing field

• Physically fit with the ability to lift and carry loads up to 60 pounds and work in varying temperatures and weather conditions

• Knowledge of roofing procedures, materials and tools

• A valid driver’s license and solid driving history

• Ability to work safely at heights

• Ability to work within a team and meet deadlines

Work location/Schedule

Works regular day shifts with some evening and weekend work, as well as on-call work. This position requires frequent local travel to construction locations; therefore a valid driver’s license and clean driving record are necessary.  On occasion their will be out of town and province work.
