<p><h3>Overview</h3><p>The Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre's (SOAHAC) purpose is to improve access to, and the quality of, health services for First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in the spirit of partnership, mutual respect and sharing. As an Aboriginal Health Access Centre (AHAC), we provide innovative, Indigenous-informed health care to First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities in southwestern Ontario from Windsor to Waterloo Wellington and north to Owen Sound.</p><p><b>Position:</b> Family Physician<br/><b>Region:</b> London and Middlesex<br/><b>Description:</b> Full-Time or Part-Time Locum<br/><b>Location:</b> London, ON (on-site)<br/><b>Hours:</b> 7-35 hours/week<br/><b>Salary:</b> $160.64 per hour per PSA<br/><b>Pension:</b> HOOPP (defined benefit pension plan) - optional</p><p>SOAHAC is a diverse, dynamic, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency. We strive to provide quality, wholistic health services by sharing and promoting traditional and western health practices to enable people to live in a more balanced state of well-being. SOAHAC provides services to Indigenous people including those who live on and off reserve, status, non-status, Inuit, and Métis within the Southwest, Waterloo Wellington and Erie St Clair regions. SOAHAC has a mandate of ensuring that health services are accessible, of high quality, and are culturally appropriate. It is SOAHAC’s objective to build health care capacity within Indigenous communities.</p><p><b>Flexible Work Arrangements:</b> We are seeking a full-time or part-time locum Family Physician open to a full-time or part-time schedule or contract service agreement. <h3>What you’ll do</h3><ul><li>Primary Care: Provide comprehensive primary care services to clients of all ages, including primary prevention, health education, comprehensive physical exams, chronic disease management, antenatal care, palliative care and acute/episodic visits. Provide primary care indirectly by working interactively with nurse practitioners, providing consultation to nurses or other staff. Conduct on-site assessments, as well as telephone, virtual and home visits.</li><li>Social Determinants of Health: Work within a social determinants of health framework which emphasizes health promotion and education, disease prevention and recognizes the special risk factors that may affect the health of clients.</li><li>Advocacy and Community Outreach: Advocate on behalf of clients with regards to equitable access to traditional healing and western health services. Participate in community outreach, patient education and prevention programs.</li><li>Clinic Functions: Maintain patient files and encounter information, ensure compliance with Ministry of Health and regulatory bodies, provide leadership in clinic operations, collaborate with allied health professionals, and supervise students from other disciplines as needed.</li></ul><h3>What we’re looking for</h3><ul><li>Experience: Medical Degree and current license to practice medicine in the province of Ontario.</li><li>Indigenous Cultural Knowledge and Understanding: Knowledge of the legacy of residential schools, colonization, assimilation, and the impacts of such history on the health of individuals.</li><li>Cultural Sensitivity & Awareness: Respect for Indigenous cultures and practices, openness to learning and engaging with Indigenous communities, understanding social/societal determinants of health of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
