The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is a not-for-profit, self-governing, professional association of 21,000 members. As Ontario’s independent certifying body for engineering and applied science technicians and technologists, OACETT confers the designations C.Tech. (Certified Technician) and C.E.T. (Certified Engineering Technologist). It promotes the interests of engineering and applied science technicians and technologists in industry, educational institutions, the public and government. With a vision to be the recognized leader in certification and member experience, OACETT supports engineering technology professionals in successfully navigating their careers. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Finance Manager to join our team, reporting directly to the Director of Finance and Corporate Services. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in overseeing financial reporting, internal controls, and comprehensive financial management activities for our esteemed organization. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting, contributing to the overall success of our mission.
As a mature and hands-on finance professional, you will bring a proven track record in not-for-profit or small-team environments, demonstrating the ability to manage multiple priorities with finesse and precision. This role presents a remarkable opportunity for a finance expert to enhance and fortify the internal capabilities of a respected organization dedicated to its community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial reporting with a focus on accuracy and excellence.
- Serve as subject matter expert on financial systems: Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM, Business Central, Dynamics NAV, and Power BI.
- Prepare clear, insightful financial reports for the Board, Finance & Audit Committee, and management.
- Support annual budget, forecast, and cash flow planning processes.
- Monitor budget vs. actuals and operational performance; recommend improvements.
- Ensure GAAP compliance and strong internal controls in financial recordkeeping.
- Lead and mentor the Accounting Team to foster accountability and growth.
- Manage membership renewal billings.
- Oversee external audits, including audit prep and compliance.
- Handle statutory filings (HST, EHT, etc.) with attention to detail.
- Administer pension remittances and liaise with external stakeholders.
- Maintain and improve financial policies and procedures for compliance and efficiency.
- Provide strategic support to the Director of Finance on key initiatives.
- Supervise two direct reports with a focus on development and training.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to deliver timely departmental reports.
- Support Power BI dashboard development for enhanced reporting and insights.
Qualifications:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a managerial role
- Proficiency in CRM and accounting/reporting systems, with mandatory experience in:
- Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM
- Business Central
- Familiarity with Power BI is a distinct advantage
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and full command of Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated expertise in: Financial report writing, Data extraction, Dashboard creation, Exceptional analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills to foster effective cross-functional relationships
- A systematic thinker and resourceful problem-solver
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
- Highly organized, with sound judgment and the ability to handle confidential information
- Experience in the not-for-profit sector, especially in associations or membership-based organizations, is a valued asset
