Donalda Club, one of Toronto’s premier private clubs, is looking for anexperienced and passionate First Cook to join our dynamic culinary team. If you have strong leadership skills, extensive culinary expertise, and a passion for delivering high-quality cuisine, this is the opportunity for you.
As aFirst Cook, you will be responsible for executing duties in a designated kitchen section, ensuring high-quality food preparation, and supervising junior cooks and trainees. You will work closely with the Executive Chef and Sous Chef to maintain culinary excellence and contribute to menu development.
Main Responsibilities
- Prepare and execute high-quality dishes according to standardized recipes.
- Ensure all mise en place is ready and well-organized for service.
- Oversee junior cooks and trainees, providing mentorship and guidance.
- Work across all kitchen stations, including garde manger, grill, saucier, entremetier, butchery, and pastries.
- Maintain food safety, cleanliness, and hygiene standards as per Toronto Public Health regulations.
- Assist in buffet setup, decoration, and execution for events and functions.
- Monitor and manage inventory, ensuring proper stock levels and minimizing waste.
- Maintain a high standard of sanitation and kitchen cleanliness.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of food to prevent spoilage.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 8 years of cooking experience in a high-volume, quality-driven kitchen.
- Canadian Red Seal Certification or Overseas Equivalent is required.
- Food Handling Certification is required.
- Strong ability to lead, mentor, and coach junior kitchen staff.
- Proficiency in multiple cooking techniques across various kitchen stations.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work in a hot environment (110°F), and perform strenuous labor.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
