Location: Ottawa, ON (regional travel required)
Compensation: Up to $110,000 base + 10% bonus
Employment Type: Full-Time, Field-Based

Our client is a growing Canadian senior living owner/operator with a multi-province footprint and an active acquisition strategy. The organization is focused on operational excellence, people-first leadership, and stabilizing newly acquired communities through strong on-site HR partnership.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support a portfolio of retirement communities in the Ottawa region. This is a highly hands-on, field-based role suited for an HR professional who thrives in a unionized healthcare environment, enjoys labour relations, and is comfortable navigating complex employee relations matters with confidence.
The HRBP will act as a trusted advisor to Executive Directors and site leadership, supporting the full employee lifecycle while playing a key role in acquisition integration and operational stabilization.
Key Responsibilities
HR Business Partnership
- Serve as the primary HR partner for multiple retirement communities
- Coach and advise leaders on employee relations, performance management, attendance, and engagement
- Provide practical, solutions-oriented guidance aligned with organizational goals
Labour Relations
- Interpret and apply collective agreements in a unionized environment
- Lead and support grievance processes, investigations, and resolutions
- Participate in bargaining preparation and labour strategy support
- Advise leaders through challenging and high-stakes employee relations matters
Acquisition & Change Support
- Conduct HR due diligence for newly acquired communities (contracts, policies, union agreements, practices)
- Support post-acquisition integration, restructuring, and change management initiatives
- Help stabilize new sites through strong on-site HR leadership
Talent & Workforce Management
- Support recruitment and onboarding for frontline and leadership roles
- Partner with leaders on workforce planning and staffing strategies
- Ensure consistent onboarding and employee experience across sites
Compliance & Best Practices
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation, health & safety, and organizational policies
- Support documentation, reporting, and HR systems usage
- Partner with Joint Health & Safety Committees as required
Travel Expectations
- Ottawa-based with regular on-site presence across multiple communities
- Minimum 3 days per week on the road, remainder work from home
- Occasional travel to other Ontario/Quebec locations
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience in a unionized, multi-site healthcare or senior living environment
- Strong labour relations experience (grievances, collective agreements, investigations)
- Experience supporting change, restructuring, or acquisitions is a strong asset
- Solid knowledge of Ontario employment legislation
- CHRP designation preferred (or working toward)
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
