IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY
Interim Director, Laboratory Services
Reports To: VP Finance & CFO
Duration: 2 months
Location: Southwest Ontario

Our client, a hospital located in southwestern Ontario, is looking for an experienced professional to join their team to help them manage through a period of transition. In this assignment, you will challenge current processes and bring new ideas and approaches to help create a progressive strategy that will lift the value and service levels. The key area of responsibility is overseeing the Lab Quality Management System at both sites and evolving the approach to laboratory policy and resources. This is a fantastic assignment for an experienced professional who loves a challenge and coaching talent through change.
Key Accountabilities:
- Coach, lead and inspire a diverse and talented team.
- Provide an assessment of the programs, policies, processes, procedures, and people to the CFO.
- Challenge current processes and bring innovative ideas and approaches to help create a progressive strategy that will lift the value and service levels of these functions.
- Work with the VP to set a solid strategy and platform for these services to enhance the success of the future permanent Director.
- Responsible for the overall administrative oversight of laboratory services at both hospital sites in accordance with departmental and Hospital policies.
- Ensures that high quality care/service is provided in an efficient and effective manner.
- Works in collaboration with affiliate hospitals and other organizations to ensure alignment of standards and goals.
- Ensure effective working relationships within the programs and services and promote a positive environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Identifies potential work unit risk exposures, recommending solutions.
- Facilitate solutions to local and regional issues or problems that arise, including the identification of risks and mitigation strategies.
- Develops appropriate performance indicators to support the achievement of program/service goals.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science Degree or College Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, A.R.T. or BSC.
- Canadian Healthcare Association Department Management Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
- Graduate of a recognized Quality Management Program preferred.
- Participates as a current member of associations, as appropriate, including CMLTO.
- Advanced level knowledge in Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, Histology an asset.
- General knowledge of Diagnostic and support technology.
- Minimum 5-7 years recent progressive experience in a hospital laboratory setting, having demonstrated leadership/management skills.
- Interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical thinking, accountability, and decision-making skills.
- Responsibility, accountability, and sound financial management.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge and application of IQMH and regulatory requirements.
- Working knowledge of laboratory and hospital software systems; Meditech knowledge an asset.
- Possess knowledge of all pertinent regulations, legislation, and business/hospital theories.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize workload.
- Knowledge and adherence to Occupational Health and Safety and Infection Control principles, policies, and procedures.
