Maintenance Lead Hand
Salary Range: $50.05 per hour
Location: Williams Lake, BC

As the Maintenance Lead, you will assist the Maintenance Supervisor in managing the plant’s maintenance operations and lead the maintenance team.


Key Responsibilities

  • I mplements maintenance plans and processes.
  • Recommends improvements to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency while staying within budget.
  • Assists in developing policies for Quality Systems.
  • Supports a continuous improvement environment aligned with Drax’s commitment to quality and regulations.
  • Aids in planning and scheduling maintenance for short and long-term needs.
  • Promotes Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs).
  • Stays updated on best maintenance practices through education and collaboration with manufacturers.
  • Manages inventory to maintain stock levels of parts and consumables.
  • Assists in planning and executing maintenance shutdowns safely.
  • Organizes maintenance activities using the Azzier CMMS.
  • Coordinates contractor work safely.
  • Uses CMMS for purchasing, planning, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Provide regular reports on departmental activities.
  • Familiar with purchasing practices, including purchase orders.
  • Open to performing additional assigned duties.

About you
You’ll possess the following skills, abilities, and experience:


  • Red Seal Certification is desirable.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in maintenance and supervision, preferably within the wood products manufacturing industry. A combination of relevant experience and education will also be considered.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with educational background or experience as an engineer, technician, or certified tradesperson.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, both personally and by positively influencing all stakeholders.
  • A valid driver’s license is required to travel to and from the site.
  • Ability to complete both online and paper forms, as well as basic checklists.
  • You are an adaptable team player with excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Key Accountabilities
Leadership & Management

  • Promotes the Drax Safety Program by providing leadership to ensure a safe and healthy work environment through adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Conducts and leads root cause analyses for equipment breakdowns and plant systems as necessary.
  • Oversees shutdown planning for plant repairs and provides detailed post-analysis reports.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills across the plant and with Drax colleagues, including those in reliability, technical, process, and automation teams, to achieve maintenance objectives.
