AtkinsRéalis is hiring a Manager, Health & Safety to join the team supporting our latest Project in Toronto. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager, Safety & Security on the Project. The purpose of this role is to support the project in achieving top-tier Safety and Security results. This involves interfacing across all project teams to establish solid relationships, provide leadership on Safety & Security elements, resources, audits, training, evaluation of own and contractor/subcontractor systems, analyze safety-related data, and develop programs and processes for the continued improvement of Safety & Security performance.

This role will be based in Toronto, ON.


Your role within the team:

  • Manages the Health and Safety function within PMO Services including health and safety reporting, incident investigation and management, and audits.
  • Provides subject matter expertise, advice, and guidance with respect to health and safety matters across the program.
  • Reviews the contractor’s program-specific site safety plan and works with the Program Delivery team to confirm effective implementation.
  • Coordinates periodic reviews and audits aimed at assessing the effectiveness of health and safety processes and procedures.
  • Provides assurance of each program’s health and safety reporting and confirms compliance against the agreed metrics.
  • Provides Management and Executive level health and safety program-wide reporting and identifies key risks and opportunities for escalation.
  • Coordinates training and briefings with respect to health and safety practices across the program.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of staff.

The ideal candidate:


  • Recognized degree and professional designation – Canadian Registered Safety professional (CRSP), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), or equivalent is considered an asset plus a minimum of 15 years of professional experience with 10 in an on-site safety and security leadership role.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in large international airport projects or equivalent infrastructure programs greater than CAD $500M.
  • Able to demonstrate significant expertise in health and safety, security, incident investigation, and other applicable technical fields with experience in managing teams to deliver health, safety, and security requirements on complex projects and programs.
  • Strong technical capability in all project phases, including design, planning, construction, operations, and maintenance preferably large program/projects.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing strategic level reporting to enable effective decision making. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills including the ability to facilitate meetings/workshops with large groups of stakeholders.
