The Continuing Care Branch at the Ministry of Health is seeking a collaborative, resourceful, organized team player for the position of Personal Care Home Standards Consultant. The successful candidate will utilize strong communication and problem-solving skills to ensure homes are operating according to the requirements under The Personal Care Homes Act. This includes understanding/applying requirements under The Personal Care Homes Act; completing onsite inspections/investigations; assisting applicants through licensing; preparation of government documents and consultation/support to a variety of stakeholders.



Travel in the province is required to monitor homes in rural and urban communities, attend meetings, etc. Typically, the knowledge and abilities would be attained through:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in a health-related discipline;
  • Experience with completing inspections in care facilities;
  • Experience conducting complaint investigations;
  • Experience writing reports for a variety of stakeholders;
  • 2+ years experience working in a long-term care or personal care home environment;
  • Experience with licensing;
  • 2+ years experience in evaluating/assessing care needs of older adults in care.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.


A valid class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for in-town travel is required.

You will have knowledge of:


  • Components of a care home inspection;
  • Components of an investigation;
  • Policy development and implementation;
  • Common health conditions that affect persons who are elderly;
  • Long-term care and community care systems including residential care facilities;
  • Issues and programs related to persons who are elderly and/or have disabilities;
  • Microsoft Word, email, and other software applications.

You will have the demonstrated ability to:

  • Accurately develop, interpret, and apply applicable legislation and policy;
  • Communicate clearly, accurately, concisely, and sensitively both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences to persuade, convince, build support, educate, and promote understanding;
  • Interact diplomatically to determine or mediate a solution when encountering difficult or confrontational situations;
  • Identify, review, investigate, and record relevant information and/or evidence in a clear, concise, accurate, and timely manner through observation, interviews, inquiries, and inspections;
  • Gather, understand, synthesize, and evaluate information to determine compliance and develop and enhance programs;
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships in order to provide consultation and advice to personal care home providers, the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the public, and other stakeholders on matters relating to personal care homes;
  • Work both independently and as a team member with other individuals and organizations to meet client and program needs;
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize a high volume, diverse workload taking into consideration conflicting priorities, frequent interruptions, and the needs of the team;
  • Review and understand financial plans to determine if the project complies with the requirements under the Act and is viable;
  • Read and understand structural drawings to ensure that they comply with the requirements under the Act.
