This is exemplified through deep collaboration between our growing team of over 1,100 members and our residents, businesses, non-profit organizations, and municipal governments.</p><p>The Strategic Management Office is looking for a Policy Specialist who will play a pivotal role in supporting and updating policies to align with the needs of our Service. This is your opportunity to join a team committed to continued leadership in community safety, contribute in a meaningful way and drive continuous improvement in our growing and progressive organization.</p><p>About the Role – How you will Contribute to the Service:</p><p>The Policy Specialist is responsible for facilitating policy improvement and maintenance in consultation with senior management. This includes: identifying, evaluating and managing policy related changes/issues. In this role you will review and track changing laws, legislation, court decisions, provincial adequacy standards and best practices in policing while ensuring the changes are reflected in Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) policy. Assistance with HRPS forms development widens the scope of this position as well. This is a rewarding position for an ambitious candidate with excellent results orientated, problem solving and analytical skills.</p><p>Responsibilities include but are not limited to:</p><ul><li>Assesses directives, bulletins, adequacy standards, legislative updates and case law, and HRPS process changes for implications that may impact policies or may require the creation of a new policy or form.</li><li>Develops policies/forms that reflect the spirit and intent of the law but are easily understood by all HRPS members and in compliance with applicable legislation.</li><li>Works with Commanders/Managers/Directors and subject matter experts to create or modify policies/forms, Operational Guidelines and validate compliance with related legislation and policies and HRPS Board (HRPSB) By-laws.</li><li>Recommends new or modified policies/forms through a process of senior management oversight and approval.</li><li>Designs, maintains, and disseminates policy linked HRPS forms used by the Service and</li></ul><p>members of the public.</p><ul><li>Establishes standards and ensures adherence for all Ministry and corporate forms and</li></ul><p>templates.</p><ul><li>Publishes and posts to SharePoint. Notifies all members, Association, HRPSB of new or</li></ul><p>modified policies/forms, as directed.</p><ul><li>Prepares a Policy Review Report for each policy, outlining justification for the changes and referencing legislation and case law, as applicable.</li><li>Assists with tracking and sending out notifications for late submissions/missed deadlines.</li><li>Acts as a resource to HRPS members, the Board and Associations on policy/forms issues.</li></ul><p>Provides information and clarification as requested.</p><ul><li>Assists supervisor with conducting audits/inspections as required</li><li>Other related duties as assigned.</li></ul><p>What you will Bring to the Role:</p><p>Education, Certifications and Qualifications: Minimum 3 years of community college in a related field (e.g. Business Administration).</p><p>Previous Experience, Knowledge and Skills: The ideal candidate will have a minimum 2 years related experience. Related experience includes business administration, analysis and information gathering. Aptitude for technical writing and interest in policy writing. Attention to detail with excellent grammar, spelling and proof-reading abilities.</p><p>Proficient user in Microsoft word and excel</p><p><em>An equivalent combination of education, skills and or/ experience may be considered.</em></p><p>**Various tests and/or exams may be administered as part of the selection criteria.</p><p>Note: The successful applicant will need to pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Service which will include reference checks with previous employers, verification of educational achievements, and a criminal background screen.</p><p>What We Offer:</p><p>We offer the opportunity to join a progressive work environment with a leading police service.
