Minimum Requirements:
- Applicants must show a strong interest in teaching as well as a high-level scientific record in accordance with UGA’s ambitions and standards. They must identify with UGA’s values, being open to the world, emphasizing ethics and scientific integrity, showing an interest in teamwork, and being committed to the community. They should also have a sense of responsibility, particularly regarding environmental and social issues.
Teaching Profile:
- The new professor will teach classes from L1 to L3 levels, in Cultural Heritage and American Civilization from the colonial era to the contemporary period.
- They will also teach in the Master’s in LLCER, proposing seminars based on their research interests and specialties.
- Primary pedagogical expectations include overseeing the supervision of master’s theses (M1 and M2), monitoring internships in academic settings during scientific events (such as conferences and study days), encouraging post-Master’s studies, and managing pedagogical coordination.
- Expertise in digital humanities and accommodating the needs of specific groups (such as elite athletes and students with disabilities) is expected.
- Administrative responsibilities include managing undergraduate (Licence) programs, directing the LLCER section, and serving as the representative of the School of Foreign Languages (UFR SoCLE) in Valence. The candidate should also be prepared to manage the DETU Licence Langues LLCER program in the event of a vacancy or oversee exchange programs such as Erasmus. Full participation in university life, including attending UFR or university council meetings, serving as chair and/or member of selection committees, participating in various commissions (including VAE), and sitting on undergraduate and Master’s juries, is required. Meetings and communication are conducted in French; therefore, a good command of French is expected.
Research Profile:
- The successful candidate will be a North Americanist specializing in civilization studies, ideally a historian with expertise in the history of science during the 19th to 20th centuries. Strong applications outside the specific field of the history of science may also be considered, provided they demonstrate a clear interdisciplinary interest. The candidate will join the LISCA team (Littératures, Sociétés et Cultures Anglophones) and is expected to initiate projects aligned with the transversal research axis “Politics, Discourse, and Innovation” and contribute to ongoing discussions on topics related to the environment, epistemologies, technologies, and innovations.
- They will focus on various processes and stakeholders involved in science in the North American context, particularly in the United States, and an interest in cross-regional transfers within North America would be especially appreciated.
- The successful candidate will engage in scientific activity and be involved in the elaboration and submission of projects (ANR, ERC, IUF, Marie Curie, etc.) intrinsically linked to the definition of a position in the environmental and medical sciences.
- Participation in interdisciplinary and pluridisciplinary projects at the larger scale of the university is expected, with a profile demonstrating an interest in developing projects related to life sciences or Earth and environmental sciences being particularly appreciated.
- Active supervision of doctoral theses in the fields of the history of science or environmental studies, with a particular emphasis on fostering interdisciplinary projects by young researchers from diverse academic backgrounds, is required.
- The candidate will be responsible for organizing international conferences and study days, inviting foreign speakers, and enhancing the national and international visibility of the ILCEA4/LISCA. They will also be expected to edit publications, contribute actively to the team’s activities, and participate in international project calls.
- Special attention will be given to initiatives promoting the dissemination and valorization of research, a key priority for UGA, including engaging with the media and socio-cultural environment, collaborating with the Grenoble Alpes University Hospital (CHU), and participating in the “research-training” initiative Grenoble-Alpes Medical Humanities (GAMES).
