Company Description

Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projets are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description

The Project Manager, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) will manage the delivery of Mechanical and Electrical packages across several stations including HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning), Plumbing (sanitary, water distribution) Drainage System, low voltage distribution, lighting, grounding & bonding and fire alarm systems.

The salary range for this position is $145,000 - $195,000 CAD, plus additional benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Lead and manage MEP works for several stations, ensuring they are executed efficiently, within budget, and in compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Planning and Scheduling: Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, and monitor progress to ensure timely delivery of MEP systems.
  • Resource Management: Coordinate with internal and external teams, including subcontractors and vendors, to allocate resources effectively and meet project objectives.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and enforce quality control processes to ensure that MEP systems meet design specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Cost Control: Monitor project costs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure that projects stay within budget.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions to MEP project timelines and budgets.
  • Client Communication: Maintain strong relationships with clients, addressing their concerns and ensuring their needs are met throughout the project.
  • Safety Compliance: Promote and enforce safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all team members and subcontractors.
  • Reporting: Provide regular project status updates, financial reports, and performance metrics to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Procurement: Implement procurement strategy and procedures, prepare technical documents for tenders, review tenderers and suppliers' proposal and review purchase requisitions and subcontracts.
  • Engineering:
    • With the support of the MEP technical department, coordinate and review shop drawings, material approval requests prepared by sub-contractors and issues documents check sheets.
    • Coordinate in house shop drawings preparation as required.
    • Ensure construction methods, material and equipment selection consistency within OLS stations.
    • Manage interfaces resolution between suppliers and sub-contractors.
    • Review and coordinate preparation of construction procedures, inspection tests plans and installation methods statements prepared by MEP subcontractors.
    • Review and coordinate field change requests, non-compliance reports.
    • Support preparation and review testing and commissioning procedures.
    • Coordinate and review factory acceptance testing procedure.
    • Set up the final documentation for project handover (as-built packages).
Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is an asset.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in MEP project management, preferably in large-scale infrastructure projects, and preferably within Ontario.
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation or relevant certifications are an asset.
  • Experience in TVS and/or FPS is an asset.
  • Proven track record of managing MEP works greater than $50m CAD in value.
  • Strong knowledge of MEP systems and industry best practices within the Greater Toronto Area, including experience of managing good relations with Unions.
  • Proficient technical understanding of the codes and standards which govern MEP systems such as Ontario Building Code, NFPA, SMACNA, etc.
  • Ability to understand and effectively execute the responsibilities of applicable Contracts, including both OTG’s upstream Contract with Metrolinx, and downstream Subcontracts with MEP Subcontractors.
  • A dynamic and detail-oriented approach that can adapt to new concepts, systems, processes, and methods of working to constantly seek out improvements and optimal results.
  • Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and excellence.
