Overview

Regional Director, Government Relations (Saskatchewan) – Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA). Base pay range: $100,400.00/yr - $125,500.00/yr.

Reporting to the Vice President, Government Relations (GR), this role is responsible for advocating on behalf of Saskatchewan credit unions with governments at all levels, with a strong focus on the provincial level. Build and maintain relationships with government leaders, members, and sector partners to benefit and strengthen the credit union system.

Responsibilities

  1. Build and maintain strong relationships with credit unions
    • Build and maintain relationships with credit unions across the province to strengthen and advance the advocacy agenda.
    • Coordinate and prepare communications to keep members informed about government relations issues, including briefing materials for meetings, teleconferences, emails, and weekly GR updates.
    • Identify opportunities for credit unions to provide input on emerging issues and present government relations items at sector meetings.
    • Liaise with regional credit union groups, meetings and events; act as primary point of contact for members in the region/province.
  2. Regional government relations management
    • Lead CCUA’s government relations strategies and activities in Saskatchewan.
    • Monitor legislative, regulatory and political activities; identify issues of consequence to credit unions.
    • Foster relationships with federal and provincial legislators to highlight the sector’s economic importance and advance objectives.
    • Develop submissions on behalf of the credit union sector to influence public policy and regulation; respond to government consultations and opportunities to pro-actively shape policy.
    • Create networking opportunities or leverage events so credit union representatives can meet key legislators.
    • Manage one full-time staff member who reports to this position.
  3. Enhance regional grassroots advocacy support
    • Promote and develop grassroots government relations capacity within the region.
    • Collaborate with CCUA’s Manager of Federal GR to implement national advocacy strategies regionally.
    • Design regional advocacy strategies to advance provincial priorities; liaise with credit union representatives to influence participation in national and provincial advocacy activities.
    • Work with regional staff to deliver consistent CCUA messaging and advocacy efforts.
    • Prepare regional advocacy materials and briefing notes for legislators and external stakeholders.
  4. Manage CCUA’s resources for the region/province
    • Provide leadership to the regional GR team, including coaching and performance management.
    • Lead planning and execution of government relations initiatives; oversee budgets for regional staff and contractors; participate in regional hiring when required.
  5. People Management and Leadership
    • Lead and support staff through performance management, role clarity, and professional development; foster an inclusive, accountable, and high-performing work environment.

Qualifications

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, business, or law.
  • Experience
    • 5+ years in political, government relations, or public policy roles.
    • Minimum 5 years in a people management role.
  • Qualifications, Certifications or Designations
    • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to distill complex policy ideas into plain language.
    • In-depth understanding of how governments function; strong provincial network in Saskatchewan.
    • Ability to work across party lines and independently; strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Working Conditions / Travel
    • Flexible location with access to downtown Regina office; periodic interprovincial travel required. Travel planned and supported by the organization.
  • Start Date
    • The target start date is Monday, October 13, 2025.
  • Position Details
    • Full-time, Permanent.
    • Salary range: $100,400 – $125,500, based on a 35-hour week; salary commensurate with education/experience.
    • Location: Flexible work location with access to Regina office.
