About the ICU
Consisting of 36 beds, our ICU is a level 3 unit that also cares for level 2 patients, serving a diverse patient population including obstetrical, oncology, medicine, and surgical patients. This unit uses a pod-based design to facilitate efficient care delivery and teamwork, alongside advanced technology for patient care and monitoring. The facility is designed with large windows for natural light, and there is a negative pressure pod and six isolation rooms to control infections. Practical amenities are also provided, including a lounge, kitchenette, shower, and quiet rooms for families and caregivers. In support of ongoing education, there is an education room equipped with a simulation mannequin.



In this role you will:

  • Monitor patients’ vital signs, hemodynamics, and respond to emergencies
  • Assist with bedside procedures, administering medications, managing pain, and patients who are sedated and ventilated
  • Administer high acuity medications to stabilize acute patients
  • Interact with physicians, allied health, patients, and families
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required

Job Requirements:



Mandatory

  • Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience
  • Completion of Level 3 Critical Care Nursing Certificate from an accredited academic institution
  • 1-2 years of recent Adult Medical/Surgical experience
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate (must complete within 6 months of hire)


Preferred

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)

Skills and Knowledge

  • Proven ability to function independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Skilled at multi-tasking with excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills
  • Sound knowledge base and demonstrated skill in:
    • Advanced assessment and documentation
    • Chest tube management
    • Arrhythmia interpretations
    • Hemodynamic monitoring
    • Mechanical ventilation
    • Dialysis
    • Set-up and assistance in bedside procedures e.g. central line insertions, intubations, etc.
    • Monitoring and transporting critically ill patients for inter-facility transfers
