S.i. Systems public health client is seeking a REMOTE Part-time Senior Database Administrator (Oracle and SQL Server) to provide coverage during vacation, sick leave or heavy periods of work. During work periods the contract personnel may be required to provide coverage during regular business hours as well as providing 24/7 coverage. 


Part-time, on demand hours – including 24/7 on call work when required

1 year contract + extensions


· 5+ years of experience with Oracle RDBMS.

· 5+ years of experience working with SQL Server

General OS sysadmin skills (system management, task scheduling, scripting, etc) in both Windows Server and Red Hat Linux

· Expert knowledge and operational experience managing SQL Server RDBMS instances ( R2 and newer) (on Windows Server)

– Develop TSQL scripts, procedures, functions, triggers, SQL and Powershell scripts

– Operational experience managing SQL Server Availability groups

– Perform and schedule database backup and restore of databases

– Experience patching SQL Server instances in an Availability group configuration

· Expert knowledge and operational experience managing Oracle RDBMS instances ( Oracle 11g and 19c ) (on Linux and Solaris )

-Develop PL/SQL scripts, procedures, functions, triggers, SQL, and Linux/Unix shell

-Operational experience managing ASM and Oracle Data Guard replication

-Perform and schedule backup and restore of databases (using RMAN)

-Proven experience planning and implementing Oracle RDBMS patches and upgrades

-Experience managing, troubleshooting, and patching Oracle OEM instances


· Monitor the databases load & performance, respond to database alerts, and tune them as necessary (Oracle and SQL Server)

· Familiarity with ETL processes associated with database usage and data warehousing.

· Develop and test ETL processes to interface data from multiple data sources.

· Load target databases using transformations.

· Plan and execute database migrations.

q Monitor production and non-production database systems (manual checks done daily)


Review DB maintenance jobs to confirm success (backups, reindexing etc)

b. Review DB logs (alert, listener etc) to confirm normal operational status


Review HA systems to verify normal operational status

d. Review general performance stats to detect anomalies


Review general database stats to detect potential issues (ASM, AWR, Storage/Tablespaces, index stats)

q Respond to system generated alerts (thresholds exceeded) (as needed)

a. Determine cause of alerts


Take action to remediate issues

q Respond to an investigate possible DB issues related to application errors (system generated and reported by operations) (as needed)

a. Determine if database systems are involved in issues


Take action to remediate issues

c. Communicate results of investigation and actions taken to operations

q Respond to 24/7 requests for DBA support (generated by service desk or IT Operations) (as needed)
