Summary
The Senior Analyst, Customs is responsible for a wide variety of technical duties to ensure the timely and accurate processing of customs entries, classification of goods, and maintenance of clients’ import databases. This includes but is not limited to researching information on imported products and working with various trade chain partners (clients, carriers, vendors, customs, and other Cole branches) to affect release and final accounting of customs entries.

Job Duties (Core)
- Handle and be the main point of contact for a portfolio of clients
- Provide guidance and feedback to clients on import requirements
- Database management which includes answering exceptions and researching information for (HS Tariff, CUSMA, SIMA, Surtax, SWI, CARM, SOA, etc.)
- Handle Customs clearances for all modes of transportation
- Facilitate payment and movement of goods with air, rail, warehouse, carrier, and steamship lines
- Maintain and update client notes and client SOPs
- Track down missing documentation for clearance as required
- Ensure entries are Customs released and accounted for in prescribed time frames
- Troubleshoot custom entry rejects
- Communicate electronically, verbally, or in writing with various trade chain partners
- Work within CARM CBSA platforms to report and process entries
- Resolve quality control issues when identified
- Manage and coordinate client billing disputes
- Prepare all the necessary information required for corrections arising from error or dispute
- Make routine contact with clients to foster good working relationships (email, phone, Teams)
- Attend industry-related training and webinars for educational purposes to stay up to date with various initiatives, ACI, e-Manifest, ARL, SWI, CARM, and internal training and development
- Act as liaison between clients and CBSA when required
- Identify opportunities to upsell or cross-sell Cole services
- Meet with clients face to face to maintain good working relationships and provide updates on customs procedures and initiatives
- Other duties as assigned by Manager, Assistant Manager, or Supervisor
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
- Minimum 4-5 years of direct work experience classifying goods in a customs brokerage
- Strong knowledge of customs clearance procedures as well as good working knowledge of other government agencies
- Strong knowledge of industry terminology and working knowledge of freight terminology
- Good working knowledge of entry correction processes
- Other industry-related studies and assets (Professional Designation, CCS, CTCS, etc.)
- Must be able to deal with pressure and deadlines effectively
- General mathematical skills
- Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions in written, verbal, or diagram form
- Must have strong interpersonal skills to be able to effectively work with clients, co-workers, trade chain partners, etc.
- Strong computer skills an asset, working with various applications such as but not limited to Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, Outlook, internal applications, AI, etc.
