Optimum Mortgage team is currently seeking full time Underwriter expert to join our team for a 12-month term!. Our Mortgage Underwriter’s are proud of their “Resolution and Customer Service” badges earned, they are consistently focused on personal and professional growth.

Your role

  • What is the “Underwriter Expert”. Provide analytical, detail-oriented evaluations, to produce strong credit decisions on sophisticated and complex Alt A mortgage applications
  • Sales Oriented. Establishing profitable and low risk parameters for loans, pricing, terms, and conditions with mortgage loans while valuing internal and external client successes
  • Risk Appetite. Maintain and excel in vigilance within the market risk appetite while adhering to CWB Financial Group policies.
  • Compliance. Ability to efficiently analyze and evaluate supporting documentation provided by clients and brokers while staying in sync with industry compliance obligations including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist financing, Internal Fraud Policies and KYC
  • Innovative Solutions. Go beyond and hold high regard to creatively invent flexible and unique solutions for clients while maintaining adherence to CWB policies and guidelines
  • Mentor. Offer mentorship to support Mortgage Documentation Officers
  • Composure. Maintaining day to day operations in an exciting paced, sales and client focused environment

    Reporting to the Manager, Mortgage Underwriting you will be joining a dynamic group of underwriters. 



    Prerequisites:

  • Education. Post secondary in commerce, finance or business or equivalent experience
  • Understanding. Minimum five years of ‘Alt A’ or “A” underwriting/ lending
  • Expertise. Understanding of Insurer (CMHC and Sagen) guidelines
  • Skills. Solid computer savvy and application skills (Word, Excel etc.)
  • Relationship Builder. Outstanding and effective interpersonal and customer service skills.

    Demonstrated communication via email and telephone. Adjudicate Broker originated ‘A’ and ‘Alt A’ credit applications
  • Emphasis. Steady ability to thrive within a sophisticated and diverse organizational environment – balancing multiple tasks simultaneously with composure and humour, under pressure
  • Time Management. Attentive to preserving efficient turnaround time with a strong attention to detail, in processing all documentation, applications and ensuring referral sources are receiving exceptional communication.
