Position Title: Senior Quantitative Analyst
Reports To: Public Portfolio Management Vice President
Department: Public Investments
Term: Permanent Full-Time

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

The Opportunity: Equitable is growing! We are looking for a Senior Quantitative Analyst to join our Public Investments team! This role will be a member of the Asset Management Group responsible for investing Equitable assets. They will be responsible for spearheading a variety of researching and analysis projects to strategically guide the effective management of the investment assets. This will include theoretical, operational, and reporting topics covering an extensive list of potential categories such as risk analysis, forecasted/relative returns, portfolio analytics, and economic modelling. This will include individual security modelling, asset class modelling, trade execution and portfolio monitoring.

What you will be doing:

  1. Assist with risk analysis, prospective return analysis and modelling, portfolio analytics, and related investment research and analytics.
  2. Assist with initial research and procedural methodology; support a timely and efficient implementation, while continually evaluating current conditions and procedures for future improvement.
  3. Responsible for analysis, process design, program coding, testing, implementing of scripts and processes.
  4. Assist in development of portfolio management tools to integrate market data and portfolio positions, in order to enhance decision making with respect to portfolio positioning and security selection.
  5. Assist with multi-asset investment selection: macro research to determine potential trends and/or scenarios that will drive the overall investment strategy.
  6. Providing documentation as required by the team/business users for testing and future support.
  7. Contribute business and technical expertise to the development and planning process in projects.
  8. Remain current on the rapidly changing technology as it relates to support for the investment processes and quantitative infrastructure.
  9. Manage assigned work to meet deadlines, balance multiple priorities as set by senior staff.

Operational & administrative support duties:


  1. Assist in the data and model management of our internal multi-asset investment framework.
  2. Track and report portfolio risk measures relative to targets.
  3. Perform administrative duties including resolving specific share management issues with broker etc.

What you will bring:

  1. Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Business, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science.
  2. Experience building and supporting technology solutions.
  3. Strong technological skills: Primary programming languages C#; proficiency in Python, SQL also required.
  4. 3 to 5 years of quantitative experience with a focus on data analysis.
  5. Good understanding of investment selection, portfolio construction, and portfolio risk management.
  6. Completion of CFA program an asset.
