Job Details:
We are seeking a U.S. Tax Lawyer to join a rapidly growing cross-border team. As part of our Law department, you will work on a broad range of legal matters, including business law, immigration, trust and estate law, and tax law. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex cross-border matters and gain experience in U.S. business, tax, and estate planning.

The candidate will report directly to the Director of US Tax and work with a team of other US Lawyers, US Accountants, Canadian Lawyers, and Canadian Accountants.


Responsibilities:

  • Advise small and medium-sized corporate clients on expanding into the U.S., including forming corporate structures, acquiring businesses, reducing taxable income, repatriating dividends, and obtaining business visas.
  • Review and analyze contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to ensure compliance and efficiency in tax and business planning.
  • Guide ultra-high-net-worth clients on U.S. inbound and outbound tax issues, including international tax and trust/estate planning strategies.
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of income tax treaties with the U.S. (e.g., Canada/U.K./Australia) to optimize tax outcomes.
  • Support tax planning for EB5 ventures, mergers, acquisitions, and real estate investment trusts (REITs) in collaboration with regional centers.
  • Develop sustainable tax strategies for multinational corporations, including efficient utilization of foreign tax credits and restructuring controlled foreign corporations.
  • Balance tax and treasury objectives to meet client goals effectively.
  • Stay informed on developments in U.S. law, particularly in the areas of tax, business, immigration, and trust and estate planning.


Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and/or LL.M in tax.
  • Some experience or classes taken in US international tax preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to clients.
