About theOpportunity

UJA Federation isseekinga trusted, strategic, and facilitative leader to serve asVice-President,Cross-Community Leadership& Engagement.This is a unique opportunity tolead the implementation of UJAs resilience agendaby strengthening trust across institutions and ideologies, cultivating crisis readiness, and supporting communal leadership in navigating todays complex challenges.

This role is a cornerstone of UJAs resilience strategy, reporting tothe Senior Vice-President, Community Capacity Buildingand responsible for:

  • Convening across divides to fostercommunity cohesion and trust;
  • Building the infrastructure, partnerships, and protocols forcrisis readiness;
  • Supporting institutional leaders throughcapacity-building and governance support.

This is astrategic and hands-onposition that requires deep collaboration across UJA departments andwith partnerinstitutions, whilemaintainingclear ownership for driving critical initiatives forward. The successful candidate will combine strong facilitation and program development skills with sound judgment, cultural fluency, and a commitment to strengthening the resilience of Torontos Jewish communal infrastructure.

This role must also bring the gravitas, emotional intelligence, and experience toconvenediverse community leaders andfacilitateconstructive dialogue particularlyin moments of ideological conflict or polarization. UJAs unique role as a convener and trusted broker is central to our communitys strength, and the VP will embody and advance that role.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1.Community Cohesion & Convening

  • Lead UJAs efforts to foster community cohesion and trust, including initiatives such as theLeading in Complexity, TogetherSummitand continued initiatives,amongstothers.
  • Act as aneutral and trusted convener, guiding constructive dialogue among institutional leaders and lay stakeholders with differing ideological perspectives.
  • Develop tools, decision supports, and engagement strategies to help UJA and its partners navigate ideological tension with clarity and consistency.
  • Facilitate and broker conversations during moments of communal strain, helping stakeholdersmaintaintrust and connection in the face of disagreement.
  • Provide thought partnership to UJAs senior leadership and board in navigating sensitive community-wide issues.

2.Crisis Readiness & Community Resilience

  • Design and coordinate a community-wide crisis preparedness approachincludingscenario planning, institutional protocols, advisory networks, and leadership working groups.
  • Partner with internal departmentsand external partnersto ensure cohesive, proactive readiness across the Jewish community.
  • Lead simulations, debriefs, and capacity-building efforts to strengthen crisis leadership among institutional stakeholders.
  • Partner with the Research team to develop indicators and benchmarks for communal resilience and crisis responsiveness.

3. Institutional Leadership Development (UJA Leadership Labs)

  • Oversee the rollout of UJALeadership Labs, a practical support hub for executive leaders across the Jewish institutional landscape.
  • Coordinate expert networks and peer forums to co-develop anddisseminatepolicy templates, governance tools, and compliance resources.
  • Support institutions in building stronger internal structures around safety, board governance, financial practices, and crisis communication.
  • Track usage, satisfaction, and policyadoptionmetrics to ensure continuous improvement and value.
  • We are looking for a strong, pragmaticcommunity connectorwho can bring people togetheraroundsharedpurposeandget things done.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • 710+ years of progressive leadership experience in community engagement, community development, strategy, nonprofit management, or institutional support.
  • Deep knowledge of Jewish community dynamics, including ideological diversity and the organizational landscape in Toronto and globally.
  • Passionate advocate and visible champion of UJAs mission, values, and goals, inspiring others through action and unwavering commitment to advancing our shared purpose.
  • Demonstrated experience infacilitatingcross-stakeholder initiatives, especially in sensitive or high-stakes contexts.
  • Proven ability to broker dialogue andfacilitatesensitive conversations with tact, neutrality, and insight particularlyacross ideological or institutional lines.
  • Strong project execution and systems thinking skills; able to lead initiatives from strategy to implementation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort leading workshops, training sessions, and drafting public-facing materials.
  • Confidence and credibility in working with senior leaders, funders, and subject matter experts.
  • Experience in developing governance tools, institutionalsupports, or policy frameworks is an asset.
  • High degree of discretion, emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and collaborative mindset.
  • Commitment to UJAs vision, values, and the broader vitality of Jewish communal life.
  • Ability to coach, influence, and build capacity in others.

Additional Assets:

  • Experience in crisis planning, organizational resilience, or reputational risk management.
  • Familiarity with governance, compliance, or institutional operations in the nonprofit or public sectors.
  • Background in civil discourse, bridge-building, or systemsconvening.


*This is a full-time permanent position. Salary Range: $160,000$175,000 annually, based on experience. At UJA we support a flexible work schedule and all of our employees engage in hybrid work. Engagement and connection are key to supporting the best employee experience and we want to ensure that this puts balance and well-being at the forefront of our approach to ways of working. In addition to a rich time off policy, UJAs offices are closed on all Jewish holy days (yom tov) and we support early office closures to observe the Jewish Sabbath (Shabbat).
