<h3>Role & Responsibilities</h3>
<ul>
<li>Manage the overall application system, ensuring seamless interaction between components.</li>
<li>Establish technology standards, translate business objectives into technology standards, and select/define/enforce consistent products, vendors, methodologies, and standards.</li>
<li>Consult clients on strategies and roadmaps and provide expert advice on architectural patterns.</li>
<li>Ensure application support, performance, availability, and scalability, maintaining the functional interface to application infrastructure.</li>
<li>Work across multiple environments and maintain strong architectural knowledge.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Preferred Education</h3>
<ul>
<li>Master's Degree</li>
</ul>
<h3>Required Technical and Professional Expertise</h3>
<ul>
<li>Eligibility: Canadian citizen or Canadian Permanent Resident; if dual or third nationality, must be from an approved country list.</li>
<li>Knowledge of export regulations and sanctions; roles involving technology covered by export controls.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Candidates Must Have or Eligible to Obtain</h3>
<ul>
<li>Secret Clearance issued by the Government of Canada (clearance may take up to six months for Canadian citizens).</li>
<li>NATO and Controlled Goods Clearances upon provision of Secret Clearance.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Requirements</h3>
<ul>
<li>Location: Ottawa, ON (on‑site at IBM office).</li>
<li>Experience in the Defence Industry.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Required Professional and Technical Capabilities</h3>
<ul>
<li>8‑10 years of low‑level programming and embedded systems:
<ul>
<li>Object‑oriented programming in C/C++, Python.</li>
<li>Bitwise operations and memory management.</li>
<li>Device driver development.</li>
<li>Message‑passing protocols.</li>
<li>System engineering.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Networking and communication protocols: serial (UART, RS‑232, RS‑485), industrial and avionics protocols (Modbus, MIL‑STD‑1553B), and custom binary messaging formats.</li>
<li>Excellent understanding of multi‑threaded applications (critical sections, memory fencing, locks/mutex) and ability to investigate and resolve related issues.</li>
<li>Knowledge of system architecture and design for custom applications, heterogeneous hardware, software modularity, data serialization, and security in embedded systems.</li>
<li>Integration and interoperability bridging old and new technologies, middleware development (API gateways, event brokers, service mesh, event mesh).</li>
</ul>
<h3>Preferred Technical and Professional Experience</h3>
<ul>
<li>Lead cross‑functional teams, mentor junior developers, and manage best practices.</li>
<li>Collaborate with Solution Architects to plan and execute features and capabilities.</li>
<li>Conduct regular stand‑ups, coordinate, report status, identify risks, and present mitigation strategies.</li>
<li>Work closely with client teams and vendor teams.</li>
<li>Excellent verbal and written communication.</li>
<li>Strong initiative, prioritization, creativity, and forward thinking.</li>
<li>Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and meet client‑committed timelines.</li>
