This technology has broad applicability to secure documents of all types, quantum computing, medical uses, and environmental remediation. As a Scientist, you will be part of the dynamic surface science R&D team developing this technology in a cutting‑edge laboratory, using unique surface science instrumentation to conduct research and develop novel approaches to bottom‑up atomically precise manufacturing.</p><h3>Job Location & Work Model</h3><p>975 Gladstone Ave, Ottawa, ON, Canada<br/>b>On‑site</p><h3>What We Can Offer You</h3><p><b>Compensation</b></p><ul><li>Industry‑leading defined contribution pension plan with company matching contributions (up to 5%)</li><li>Best‑in‑class health, medical and life insurance benefits</li><li>Access to virtual and telehealth services</li><li>Progressive fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits</li></ul><p><b>Career</b></p><ul><li>Abundant learning opportunities and challenging work that grows your knowledge, skills and abilities</li><li>Encouragement to chart your own career path, putting you in control of your future</li></ul><p><b>Culture</b></p><ul><li>Personal character is the foundation of our culture; CBN’s 7 Core Principles guide behaviours and underpin community</li><li>Equity, diversity and inclusivity are important; we foster and develop a respectful work environment</li></ul><h3>Job Responsibilities</h3><p><b>Microscope & Equipment Operation</b></p><ul><li>Operate Scanning Probe Microscopes (SPM), primarily qPlus AFM and STM</li><li>Use additional tools such as Field Ion Microscopes, XPS, mass spectrometry and MBE systems</li><li>Work in ultra‑high vacuum (UHV) and cryogenic conditions using vacuum chambers, UHV pumps, bakeout equipment, liquid nitrogen and helium, and helium recovery equipment</li></ul><p><b>Research & Experimentation</b></p><ul><li>Participate in experimental design, scientific literature reviews, troubleshooting and solution development aligned with company goals</li></ul><p><b>Data Analysis</b></p><ul><li>Analyze data using specialized SPM software, Python scripts, statistical tools and graphing platforms to extract meaningful insights from large datasets</li><li>Present findings in a clear, concise format that supports well‑defined conclusions tailored to the intended audience</li></ul><p><b>Reporting & Communication</b></p><ul><li>Write and tailor clear, concise technical reports for internal documentation and external peer‑reviewed publications, adapting content to suit the target audience</li><li>Present research outcomes at company meetings and scientific conferences, ensuring clarity and relevance for diverse audiences</li><li>Perform cryogen fills when needed and follow internal SOPs</li><li>Participate in scheduled teamwork and cryogen fills</li><li>Follow safety protocols, champion best laboratory and workplace health and safety practices, and contribute to improving procedures when appropriate</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><p><b>Knowledge and Experience</b></p><ul><li>Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Science or Engineering</li><li>Key asset: Experience with Scanning Tunneling Microscopy or Atomic Force Microscopy (qPlus or frequency modulation non‑contact AFM)</li><li>Key asset: Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) equipment</li></ul><p><b>Nice to Have</b></p><ul><li>Experience with X‑ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy</li><li>Experience with Molecular Beam Epitaxy, SEM, FIB</li><li>Quantum computing research experience</li><li>Programming abilities with Python and LabView are a plus</li></ul><p><b>Soft Skills and Characteristics</b></p><ul><li>Critical thinking, analytical and problem‑solving skills</li><li>Interpersonal, communication, teamwork and collaboration skills</li><li>Organization, time management and prioritization skills</li><li>Growth mindset, self‑directed</li></ul><p><b>Mandatory Requirements</b></p><ul><li>Fluency in English (reading, writing, verbal)</li><li>Ability to occasionally work outside of standard business hours as required</li></ul><p><b>Security Clearance Requirements</b></p><ul><li>Ability to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Reliability (Level I) clearance</li></ul><h3>About Us</h3><p>CBN Nano Technologies, Inc.
